I've had similar problems. Well many. I did have a USB modem. Which broke, i got some odd error which said something or the other was corrupt. so i rang them up. An Indian man answered the phone, After 45minutes of him making me install, uninstall the usb modem he told me.....WAIT FOR IT. That my windows was corrupt.

So like the foolish 18 year old i was i did what the man on the phone said, The handy philips pc has a option to restore windows and save all your data which has been added on to a folder. so i did.

Low and behold it didn't work...I got fed up then spoke to an Indian lady..Who couldn't differ E from S... so i gave up and went a brought a wireless router off ebay. For a painless 20 quids.

Oooh and I've been trying to upgrade my internet speed from 2mb to 8mb.. and i cant get it because.....They have the details of my old address... Because....?! Arghhhhhhhhhhh

The good part is i spoke to a very tired sounding brummy technical assistant. Who apart from sounding like he hated his job and tbh who wouldn't he was the best help I've had from them, Absolute gem. He didn't get the problem sorted but she sure did try lol.

Rant over

Big Shout out to Grians bios repair. The guy managed to reprogram the bios from a
bad flash on my motherboard for only £16.50!!! Happy days.

Hi Dingo

You must have been on the phone for quite along time for the change that came over the person at the other end.
He didn't get the problem sorted Smile but she sure did try lol.

I've had similar experiences with Tiscali customer support... I was without my broadband for a week last summer (I later found out they were upgrading my exchange but hadn't informed their customers), but it's always the same advice... make a new connection... uninstall the modem drivers... reinstall the modem drivers... reboot your PC... kick the cat... etc.

Well I got some good advice from Kitz's forum and bought a cheapish router instead (similar this one: http://www.dsldepot.co.uk/product_details.asp?idProduct=518 )and have never looked back. Then with a wireless adaptor on the spare PC it saves fraffing about swapping the modem over. The other plus side of course is that you don't need all that modem software loading at startup.

P.S. They credited me for the week's broadband I didn't get, but that was cancelled out by the cost of the phone calls I made to them.

im with tiscali , there customer support is not to good, iv been with them for about a year , some how i doubt you will recieve your wireless router without ringing them, as i had the same problem took them 2 months to send me it, during that two months before i recieved it, i kept on getting told to ring billing then technical support. the anoying thing was half of them dident have a clue what they where doing, other then that i was very happy with the package i got, and got it set up in no time, also i get a good speed from them ,

my package is 8mb extra 14.99 a month , and i get 7mb on the speedtest i done so not all bad i can only fault the customer support with them, but the best bet is to ring them weekdays late afternoon,

I pay Tiscali £19.99 a month for broadband max, phone line rental, and free off-peak calls. And not a penny to BT.
