so after getting a bit nostaligic after looking at the "still alive video" I had a look at the old amigas, one thing that realy bugged me since back in the day. how did the A600 work. as far as I know it was a 500+ striped of its chip ram so it only has the 1MB fast ram for software and the graphics chips. so why didant games crash? why wernt there any memory issues and no big hit in performance (as in the A1200).
harder,faster bet....er drat!

| The A600 had the same amount of Chip Ram as the A500+ = 1MB .Probably most of the compatibility issues were caused by diffrerent Kickstarts rather than ram?

ah after having a further look it only had 1mb chip ram but no fast ram. so an a600 was still 512k to 1mb short compared to an a500/+ whitch had 1mb fast ram and 512k to 1mb chip ram
so it still doesnt make sence
harder,faster bet....er drat!

The A500 only ever had 1MB chip ram, any fast ram was added by the user either as an add on or as part of a package deal (like me who received an A500 cartoon pack with a 2MB fast RAM add in card to boost the memory). Most problems started with the A500+ and it's kickstart ROMs (as far as original programmed for the A500 software was concerned, compatability was a bit iffy). Bare bone consumer Amiga's only ever came with chip ram as standard (either 1MB - A500/+, CDTV, A600 or 2MB - A1200, CD32).
