i have setup my network between my desktop xp machine and laptop win2000 machine. when i access the xp folders from the laptop it is fine and goes straight into them but when i try to access the 2000 folders from the desktop it ask for a password and username. the first problem is i dont know what the password is as i cant remember setting one up and it doesn't ask for it anywhere else while actually on the laptop but i dont want the password request on anyway.
so, can anyone direct me how to turn off the request in win2000 on the laptop so that i can access the folders while on the xp machine?

i now have seen some other mentions of this and the people also think they WERE putting in the correct password and it wasn't accepting. i also put the password that i thought it would be even though i couldn't remember if i had actually set one.

on the 2000 machine, where would i just remove the request for password etc?

i have clicked the folder and manually set up 'everyone' and again put it to full access but no good.

this is what keeps coming up..

when i go into control panel and click on the passwords part, i think users and passwords, it doesn't have the password required to access this computer ticked

SOLVED.

i went into the 'admin tools' and then 'comp management' then 'local users and groups' then 'users'. i then right clicked the user which was marc and set password. this sorted it. the first time i tried to access the folder again from the xp machine it asked for the username and password and accepted it. each time now it goes straight to it.

it appears the fault wasn't that the password was wrong but it just needed a password to confirm the access for the first time, NOT that it was asking for the main admin's password as i have this disabled as i am the only one needing access.
