Hello, Im trying to oc my replacement dell rig(after two days of hell) and im having a problem after the FSB hits 230, Im using a P5B with all its old fashioned bios settings and after the FSB is raised to 230 or over my rig has a double go at booting into post, Everything comes on, Fans etc but it has to do it twice before it will post. When im in windows its stable at 3.2 from 2.8 but im concerned that this new phenomenon is going to hurt my rig.

I have a 600w psu which powered a more power hungry rig a while ago, I have set the PCIE freq at 100, PCI freq at 33.3 and the NB/SB/FSB termination voltages at auto, Im concerned about these settings as they go up in large increments and earlier i tried NB 1.25v/ FSB 1.2v and left the SB at auto, On some forums 1.5v was set for this but in my settings anything over 1.4v is highlighted in red. Could it be the mobo voltages? or am i looking in the wrong direction, Any ideas?

My memory @ 230 FSB is running at 460mhz, far below its rated speed(667) so it cant be this.

warm regards

Hi Mog.

Which Pentium D is it? Is it the D915? It would be handy to know what multiplier it's running at. x14?

Cheers, Slipstreem.

System specs: "Phoenix" - Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @546MHz), Sapphire ATI HD3870 512MB GDDR4 PCIe graphics card overclocked to 850MHz GPU & 2.4GHz RAM. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.

I don't think you need to play with any of the motherboard voltages as the mobo is still running well within its design limitations in terms of FSB. What happens if you raise Vcore slightly? Does it help?

Cheers, Slipstreem.

I raised the vcore from auto(1.17) up to 1.3v, Not 100% sure what the optimal limit is for 3.2ghz or higher.

not sure if the same on your board, but a lot of boards do the double booting now. when settings are changed in bios it boots twice to set the settings, same thing if you switch off at mains. soon as mine is taken off stock it does it.

maximus formula se, q6600go @3800.

samsung 2232bw 22" pebble.
2x 500gb spinpoint,

When i turn my boys rig off at the mains it does the same thing as my rig, Good point fakesnake. The higher i oc it the more loops it does(3 last time)

My concern is that its not a feature but a problem, My mobo is qiute old in todays terms and im not sure if it does this behavior as standard. Its not the vcore(i set it as far as 1.4) or any of the chipset voltages, I will try to take it up to 3.4 and see how many boots it does.

warm regards

It could be that the northbridge cannot handle the increased fsb. You could try jumping it higher to see if the fsb strap will change to give slacker latency. 400Mhz is not to bad.

Here's your cpu's spec:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL9DA

Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped
Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded)
4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12
250Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo
Enermax 600 Watt PSU
Ubuntu/Win XP
All in a Thermaltake Handbag...
Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker.

Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!
