i ve heard about the wonders of over clocking but im unsure how u do it, could you kind people tell me how u do it. i have a old pc wich i can practise on

Just a thought mate, but perhaps the spec of your PC would be handy? I.e, make and model of the; CPU, Motherboard & Memory.

Well as you are getting a new rig, it'll be massively different. It varies from generation to generation.
If you have a look at the stickies, they are going to be closer to what you are doing. There is no real need to practice. Unless you start adding voltage to the CPU, you can't damage the CPU. Just up the FSB slightly, test it. Repeat and rinse untill it is unstable and take it back to the last stable settings.
Test 
AMD overclocking is different to Intel overclocking. Pentium overclocking is different to Core 2 overclocking.
