I'm now bored of the repeat 'rebuild/build/update your "xxxx" computer" sections that now seem to act as a space filler in the magazine these days. You guys are doing a great job but it's now seems you're running out of ideas for space fillers ; so here's one for you.
How about installing an OS on the PS3/Wii/Xbox and try using it as a personal computing device, or some hack that can turn your handheld console into some remote control for your PC and home digital gadget(s).

| Yes MM do do a great job. Here is one I would like to see hardware wise. OK some of the guys @ MM get to test gear, Leo & Mark for instance who have a good rapport with who ever. The SSD are now coming into there own and are still wildly expensive, there are a couple of real fast ones out there now. But the end of the year it is estimated that the cost of a SSD will have dropped to one third of the current price. One test I have not seen done yet is just how capable are these new fast drives at mimicking real ram. What Im talking about is a cache ram test. A gaming machine with say only 512 or a gig of ram should cause the OS to cache big style and what will be the effect on FPS in a game like memory hungry FEAR. Oh and why are they called solid state discs.
The Lost Artifact is not lost. Why? Because I have it.

| you made me feel old, when i was growing up you used to see the solid state sticker on portable radios and sometimes on tvs. back then it was because we had just made the transistion from using valves to using transistors, hence the name solid state. solid state actually now means no moving parts.

Why not a review of Solid State hard drive, http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/macbook-air-ssd-review.ars at ars technica reviews the hindered macbook air and confirms what we could all probably guess about the performance of SSD hard drives.
As to benchmarking SSDs against RAM, I'm all up for it but to be honest, I'm sick of benchmarking this and that, I'd like to see more "hack" on projects something that will get a lot more of us going "Ooohh I'd like to try that" not the "Oh that's quicker that that" articles that's plauging just about every PC mags these days. COME ON!! innovate don't regurgitate.
