Too busy to give tips at present. However for those looking to help, the board in question is 650i/680i based depending on version with a full range of oc options.

Daniel can you say which mobo it is exactly and I'll try to grab a copy of the manual and write you a walk-through later tonight.

Cheers,
vfm

Hello, Look in your bios options Daniel, set DRAM frequency to manual and you should see a few different frequencies that you can choose, Its always best when overclocking to set it at the lowest one(should be 400Mhz), Whenyou overclock you do it by raising the FSB, as your ram is linked to this the ram frequency goes up at the same rate( DDR2 is 2x FSB speed).
Your ram is rated at 800Mhz which means you have lots of headroom for overclocking, Even if you got the chip to over 3.0Ghz you would still have room to spare(when you have a stable overclocked cpu, we can advise you on how to tighten the memory timings)
As long as you set the dram frequency to 400Mhz( or lowest) , set PCI E frequency to 100(in bios) you are ready to overclock, save the bios settings on exit and good luck, Take your time and let us know how it goes.

warm regards

The mobo is 650i based. If you use the aria.co.uk quick find code 30791 you can see the exact mobo. It's full name is Asrock PENRYN1600SLI-110DB 650i Sli Socket 775. A walk-through would be ab fab this being my first build and first OC. Thank you so very much VFM. What do you hope to find in the manual though? I have what came with it and what I would call a manual though it calls itself a "quick installation guide" and it skimps very much on BIOS info.

Monsieur Mog, the DRAM frequency is on 400Mhz and the PCI-E 100Mhz and I believe 400 may be as low as it can go. There are others options like changing it manually as you'd expect but I can also pick 266Mhz and 333Mhz as specific options though at the sides they say DDRII533 and DDRII667 respectively. I won't change the frequency from 400Mhz for now unless someone instructs me to.

Regarding the memory timings I thought the lower the numbers the faster the memory was and at 4-4-4-12 doesn't that mean it's as fast as it's going to get? The only timings I've ever seen are 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 though I'm sure there are more. Any speed increases will of course be welcomed though so go ahead and share that wonderful wisdom of yours with me. I don't think I'll make any major changes until VFM has written his guide for me but I'll have a quick play around.

Thanks in advance you guys.

OK Daniel, it seems from what you said that you don't have the Full Manual. It may be only on the Driver CD. If not you can download it from the following link - http://www.asrock.com/mb/manual.asp?Model=Penryn1600SLI-110dB&s=775

Overclocking Walkthrough -

Go into the bios. Go > Advanced > CPU Configuartion. Set the Overclock Mode to [CPU, PCIE, Async.]. Set the CPU Frequency to 300. Set the PCIE to 100. Leave everything else on this page unchanged but make sure that that CPU Thermal Throttling is Enabled.

Now we need to adjust voltages and memory. This time we go > Advanced > Chipset Configuation.

First lets do the memory. Set DRAM Frequency to Manual and set to 400Mhz. Next set the CPU Voltage to Manual and as close to 1.35v as you can set.

That should be it. Just Exit the bios saving changes. When you reboot it should be running sweetly at 3Ghz. But do run Orthos for a few hours to test stability. Any problems post again and we'll fine tune it if need be. But 3Ghz is not pushing that chip so it should be stable at these settings.

Cheers,
vfm

Ok, I've almost done but you say as close to 1.35 as I can get, I can do 1.35 and then either side of that are 1.34375 and 1.35625 which do you recommend? I'll leave it till about midnight, that should be long enough right?

Thanks for the manual btw. The installation guide ends just before Chapter 3 - BIOS Setup

Edit: System booted fine, about to start Orthos. I choose 1.35v

Bad news guys, the test failed straight away. I picked the first option small FFT's and the temps went straight up to 50C where it then stopped. I have a print screen so I'll upload that within the next few minutes.

Edit: Image uploading. Checked out the memory in CPU-Z if it's to blame the value are;
DRAM Freq 200Mhz, FSB: DRAM 3:2, 3-3-3-8-11

Dont worry about temps! I would give the vcore a nudge to the next level, I would also set memory timings to manual at 5 5 5 15.

warm regards
