| Ok changed the timings, it worked for 55 seconds. BUT IGNORE THE TEMPS? It rose straight to 55! What now guys?

Don't worry about temps. As long as speedstep is on the cpu will throttle its speed if it gets to warm.

| Ok, no worries about temperature. So what do I need to change to get orthos working? Surely I can't do much until the CPU has been thoroughly tested. Should I try another stress tester?

I would double check that speedstep is enabled first. Better safe than sorry. Orthos is the best prog to use. If it is unstable then you need to investigate which area is your weak point. Try running memtest on your memory to check that it is error free.

| SpeedStep is currently on auto. I don't think I've been told to change it. I'll enable it, see if computer boots and see if orthos works. If so yay, if not I'll do a memory test.

Daniel, just relax and take your time, Your temps are fine and not all cpu chips are created equal, Some need a bit extra vcore and some chips wont overclock at all, There is no point in looking for another stress application because if it fails orthos its not stable, My rigs have all beeped and flashed red with orthos so dont worry about it. The memory timings to change for now would be CAS(5)-tRCD(5)-tRP(5)-tRAS(15) and leave the rest as they are or on auto, The ram timings your running now are very good, The reason i suggest changing them is to make it less stressfull on the ram so that your overclock instability can be narrowed down to either chipset or cpu voltage, The timings can be changed when you have a stable overclock.
Take the vcore up a notch and see what happens, As slipstreem always tells us, ensure that CPU TM is enabled in your bios and you cannot go wrong.
warm regards
Ive been googling vcore on the E2180, 1.40 or 1.41v is common for 3.0Ghz and your temps of 55 degrees during orthos is good, If you can get orthos stable at this vcore for at least a few hours the next step is to lower the vcore until its unstable, Then put it back up the where it last worked.

Ok I changed the timing and tried running orthos, it still didn't work. I ran memtest and didn't get any errors. So moggie, you're suggesting keeping the timing at 5-5-5-15 for now? Should I start lowering the FSB a few Mhz at a time as well as messing with the voltage until orthos works? The voltage atm is 1.35625 is there a limit I really shouldn't go above? I've seen on some forums guys putting the voltage up to about 1.42 to do 3Ghz.
Edit - Just raised voltage to 1.38750, orthos has been running for 9 mins so far, hopefully this might be the one. The CPU is 60C, but with the side of my case off its now 58C. I know you guys are saying the CPU will be fine at these temps but do you have a website or anything that can REALLY put my mind to rest.
In case you were wondering my browsing and replying is being done on my laptop.
13 minutes...
