hey guys! in a pickle with this one!!!
Came home from work, as per usual, Im straight up and onto the PC, problem is, all I have is a black screen.... ok, so nothing works... at all... but my PC is powered up. Ive checked all the power / monitor cables and everything is fine. I've had no changes to the machine in quite some time so not a software issue.
Thing is, the monitor works. when i turn the PC off and back on, it shows the usual press del to enter BIOS etc etc.... then shows the "windows loading" screen. After that it goes straight back to a blank / black screen.
I've got my laptop and PC networked, and tried accessing it through the network and even though its turned on, it does not show.
Any ideas to get it working again?
I've also tried removing / putting back in the gpu, cleaning inside, different cables, etc... and i know the monitor works as i have tried it with a second rig!
Thanks guys!

Stick the XP cd in and do a repair. Or if you have made any recent software/hardware changes then boot into safe mode (Tap F8 after post) and undo any changes either manually or with system restore.
Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded) 4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12 250Gb Samsung Spinpoint Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo Enermax 600 Watt PSU Ubuntu/Win XP All in a Thermaltake Handbag... Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker. Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!

May be a stupid question, but in lieu of re-installation from pukka source discs, have you got an earlier partition image that you could restore ?

mup.sys is the Microsoft UNC file.
According to some sources, this only happens on non genuine installs of XP.-but I have had it in the past on a pre-installed Dell PC.
I tried a repair, but ended up having to reinstall from the Dell recovery disk.
According to others, it can be caused by hardware.
I personally think it is due to a rogue update,
This link seems to confirm that.
I would see if you can get hold of a Linux Live CD, try booting from that, and you may be able to recover your personal files before reinstalling.
suggestions:
Recovery is possible an excellent tool.
Ultimate boot CD Perhaps easier for a Windows user.
edit: look at this link
good luck!

| Most of my PC's seem to hang at Mup.sysyou need to leave the pc for 30 seconds or so.If it still hasn't booted after that then you have a more serious problem but do be patient. Also you say you have replaced the leads but have you checked the leads are ok as the problem you describe can be caused by faulty or bad connecting leads especially sata as these leads come off very easily and windoze will not be able to find the optical or HDD and will lock up until it is sorted. Hope this helps.
