Hello. I have a problem that i hope somebody maybe able to help me with.
Up till this afternoon i was able to overclock my E6550 on a P35C-DS3R to 3.2mhz with no problem. I had a problem in that it would not post after a reboot. So i reset the bios. Now it will not overclock at all.
If i set the fsb to 458*7 =3.2mhz in bios, when i reboot it shows on the post screen it is only at the default (333*7=2.33mhz), going back into bios it still shows that the fsb is @458.
Ive tried cpuz and also EVEREST Ultimate and both say the same thing the cpu is running at 2.33mhz.
I thought updating the bios might sort out the problem so i did, from the F10 to F11 but it hasnt.
Also if i used the load optimal settings in the bios it sets the fsb to 100*7 = 700Mhz which is below the default.
So any advice that anybody can give me would be gratefully excepted in getting this problem sorted.
Here are a couple of photo to show what im on about.

Try clocking UP to 3.2GHz.

Clocking down is pointless, especially by 3.1977GHz

Sorry mate i think you have missed the point of what im trying to sort out. Thought thanks for your reply. im not tring to underclock it at all i want to overclock. when i use the optimial setting in bios it sets the clock to 100*7=700mhz and not what it should be (333*7=2.33). After i have set the fsb to 458*7=3.2Ghz and reboot all i get is the post screen showing that i have not infact got a overclock at all (see second picture). but if i go back into bios it still shows the fsb to be 458*7 (see first picture).

I was making the point of you putting 3.2MHz

Have you tried going up in increments? I have the same board as you, and I pushed it up slowly

yeah. i had it overclocked to 3.2ghz since i bought this board and that was 3 months ago. up till this afternoon i didnt have a problem with it. it was running lovely. 12 prime etc. this afternoon i rebooted cos i hadnt done it for a week or so, but it hung before the post screen. so i cleared cmos and then that is when the problem started. no matter what i set the fsb to in bios it still shows on reboot no overclock. (but if i look in the bios it says it is)

Hmm, strange. I had a similar problem, which was caused by me using the wrong multiplier.

You sure it just not speedstep clocking it down while idle? Run Orthos at the same time and see what cpu-z says. The bios screen on mine shows the default for the cpu...

Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped
Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded)
4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12
250Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo
Enermax 600 Watt PSU
Ubuntu/Win XP
All in a Thermaltake Handbag...
Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker.

Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!
