Put Ubuntu HH on the rig in the sig. The screen res is only 1024x768 though? I am trying to edit the xorg.conf file but it does not let me change even thought the file shows the res I want?

I have edited it so it looks like this but it does not give me the options for my desired res.
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 28-51
VertRefresh 43-60
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "ATI Technologies Inc ATI Default Card"
Monitor "Generic Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Hi Wiz!
Don't know whether this will help, but on my NVidia rigs, 32-bit 8.04.1, from the LiveDVD, is proving more hardware tolerant than Updated 8.04.
Easy for me to say, with XP-hosted partition image restore when 'things go wrong', but have you tried EnvyNG ? (Doesn't work on my old [C] rig, so its probably time that I went off-line for a few days, to re-instate and check out my HD2600PRO card on my [B] rig.)
(I have found that it takes three or four weeks for new ATI release Linux drivers to filter through to Envy, so I won't be rushing to do it.)

Thanks Bruce. I didn't realise I had installed such an old version. I'll try HH and see if it improves.
