if it is 1Gb on each 9600GT it is effectively 1Gb RAM as they share it.

Tri-SLI does exist for the top tier cards, such as 8800GTX, 9800GTX and the GTX260 and GTX280.

Very CPU limited and improvements are minimal over SLI.

I was under the impression that AVG Free and OpenOffice are free to the end user, but never to be preinstalled with the intention of raising a products value, as it's profiteering on whats meant to be a free program.

Depends on how you look at it... from the other direction they are providing a service that keeps the price low but adds useful software for the end user (who might no know about it / understand it). It also encourages the proliferation of free software.

But in this case I think your correct

Cheers,
Tom

OpenOffice is open-source and anyone can do whatever they like with it -- including making money from it or using it to add value to a system. AVG Free is a different matter, as it's not open-source.

Palicomp are quite a big player on eBay as a system builder/seller. They've been using the old speed-rating trick for several years. Not good, but their feedback suggests not many people are bothered by it. In such a cut-throat business, I guess it's one way to stand out from the crowd. I can't say I blame them, to be honest. Indeed, I've thought more than once about doing the same...

It gives a misleading representation of the product, in fact, completely bogus representation. False advertising if I ever saw it. Advertisers cash matters but so does considerations like this.

i would not buy from them because by adding them together they imply they have no idea about it so does not give me confidence about the build etc

Stop rubbing it in about the CPU speed!

Anyone who has read a certain article will know what I mean

they imply they have no idea about it

That applies to about half the PC sellers out there, I reckon. :-)

Thing is though to the ley man 10GHz is probably a better representation that 2.5GHz Quad core (where chances are they wont have a clue what it means!)

The unfairness really comes form the fact that not all system builders do it: which means those that dont spin the truth have systems that look worse...

Cheers,
Tom
