tried to repair from windows cd,

stops at set up will complete in approx 34min,

the brings up

microsoft uaa bus driver for high def audio HDAUDBUS.SYS

please insert the compact disk labled (above) installation disk , at this point keyboard + mouse stops responding and cannot do anything,pointer is frozen on the screen.

Make sure you are using a PS2 keyboard and mouse. USB doesn't always kick in as at that point it will be installing drivers.

Whenever a prompt like that comes up say no. You can install the drivers yourself once repaired.

If that still doesn't work, then I'm afraid you're going to have to do a new install. Use Linux Live distro to backup anything you need and bite the bullet.
