Hi all,
I'm seriously considering changing my ISP to O2. They offer 'up to' 8 Meg, at £7.50 a month - as I'm an O2 pay and go user. They say it is unlimited, but as ever the FUP is vague, stating if they think usage is excessive... etc. etc.
I have sent a mail to O2 querying this, and a few other things and I'm waiting for a response. In the meantime, I wondered if there are any users of said ISP, and if so, how are things going?
There are a few minor perks, but it's the price that is tempting me tbh.

O2 use Be's network. As they are one and the same, I can tell you (and quite a few others) that Be is wonderful and well worth it. So yes, it's a good idea to do it
I'm not the lightest of users, with 5 in a family all using the net for various things and so far not a word on limiting or over use. I think I heard a rumour that something like 100Gb was their FUP (not sure if that's accurate) but that's plenty right?

Got it here but not used it yet (took 2 weeks to start and during that time I've had a two week holiday so I'll be able to use it from Tuesday next week when I'm back)
Setup was painless mind and they send out texts telling you how it's going. May as well set it up at home as in the shop they only run through the online form with you. Though from reading, it appears you have to install O2 software to your machine to get it to connect ala AOL. No idea what the deal is though so I'll let you knwo next week.

Used it for the past 6 months, and it is fine, not noticed any throttling of any sort. TBH I doubt if you will find many ISP's that don't have some form of FUP, unless you're willing to pay for it.

Thanks for the replies
I got a reply from my enquiry, below is their wording as to why the FUP is vague:
The fair usage policy is slightly vague the reason for this, is at the moment there has not been a figure set in stone for excessive use. The reason for this is the broadband product is fairly new and at the moment there is not enough customers to introduce a limit. There has been sketch numbers drawn up and the limit to cross before breaching any fair usage policy would be roughly 50/60Gb a month, but with this being a sketch number it could always change and any changes would be advised.
Still, it does at least give some kind of figure, albeit subject to change.

I can resell on the O2 backbone (amongst other products) and at the moment the ADSL2+ product is truely unlimited. Only really of use if you are <2km from the exchange as speeds drop off sharply, ending up worse than (the potential) of ADSL Max.

Thanks Dave. I take it ADSL2+ is applicable to their 16 Meg (and above) packages?
The 16 Meg package is £10 a month and is still cheaper than my current provider, and worth considering if it is truly unlimited. Without the user discount it is £15 pcm.
I can walk to the exchange in 5 minutes roughly. Takes a bit longer when it's as hot as today
