hi everyone
i have just built a new system for a friend,
pentium dual core 2180
2gb ram
250 gb hdd
ati 3450
im trying to install vista home pre 32bit oem, it gets through the inital setup stage - partitioning the hdd etc, then after the expanding the files page it ticks all the headings and restarts as though its finished but on rebooting to the loading screen it just keeps restarting.
if i try to start in safe mode it stops at crcdisk.exe
ive changed the graphics, cd rom, cables, xp installs ok,
i just dont know what else to try. could the disk be faulty, there doesnt look like theres any damage to it
any help would be great.

Sounds like a dodgy hdd or file system. When you format it let it do the normal NTFS format not the quick one and it will check the hdd for errors.
Also saw reference to trouble with ATI cards. You could try the onboard if you have them if the other card you tried was also ATI.

I shouldn't think so but setting it to defaults can't harm.

I would still do a normal NTFS format and check the drive for errors.
