| Hello all Am having problems at the moment with (XP) Windows Explorer shutting itself down, error code 0xc0000005. This happens whenever I go into My Computer, My Documents, etc, etc. It allows me to view documents, move over files, copy documents, etc as normal, but when I close down the window, I then get an error message saying that Explorer needs to be closed down. Sometimes, this is accompanied by boxes saying Data Execution Prevention error and also Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger, though not always - sometimes, just the Windows Explorer box displays. The system seems to work fine, all other software performs okay and I can always reenter My Documents, My Computer etc afterwards and fiddle again with my files. On closing down however, the same error box always gets displayed. When this happens, the desktop clears for a second or two and then all my icons reappear again and function normally. I have done a little research on the net about this error and as a result have swapped over memory sticks, rolled back graphics card drivers, uninstalled different software - all to no avail. I have noticed however, that subsequent to this error occurring, AVG Free Version 8.0 seems to show that it is running a scan down in the TaskBar, even though it isn't actually doing this at the time. I have uninstalled AVG 8.0 to see if this is the cause of the problem but it Explorer seems to shut down regardless of AVGs presence on my system. Problem was intermittent when it first started to show up - now it seems to be doing it all the time. Has anyone else experienced such a problem before?

Have you ran a reg cleaner? You could stick the XP CD and and do a repair. That would more than likely solve the issue.
