With the weather like it is do you guys do anything to keep your pc's cool?

Just wondered, at the moment my temps in the pc are around +40c, doesnt help overclocking it so would i be better off resetting to default and turning on Intel SpeedStep and let that cool it all down.

Im not playin any games or stressing it out at the moment, kinda having a break from my pc at the moment.

What would you guys recommend? do you do anything to keep it all cool?

Nothing. It's was stress-tested when first built by shutting it in a small bathroom with a fan heater for several hours to make 100% certain that it was stable and everything would stay within limits on even the hottest of days.

I can't think of a valid reason for ever turning SpeedStep off to be honest. If it's disabled then try switching it on. It will make some difference, especially if your PC sits substantially idle as most do. Mine is still almost silent even in this heat when just surfing and all temperatures are well within design limits as far as I can tell.

Cheers, Slipstreem.

System specs: "Phoenix" - Intel C2D E4500 overclocked to 3GHz with ACF7Pro HSF on Volt-modded ASRock 775Dual-VSTA mobo (modded BIOS rev 3.10A and VNB=1.65, Vagp=1.8), 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM (3.0,3,3,8,1T @546MHz), Sapphire ATI HD3870 512MB GDDR4 PCIe graphics card overclocked to 850MHz GPU & 2.4GHz RAM. Powered by Hiper Type-M 580W PSU. Guess who likes overclocking on a budget.

The heat will only affect you if your cooling is inadequate. If your PC is OK then you shoulkdn't worry. Temps of 60+ is when you get worried for a CPU.

For a GPU they are a lot more resilient (4870 was idling at 80C. Just kicked the fan upto 40% and its come down to 50C. Pity I can't find info on any thirdparty coolers for it )

My E4300 @2.8 GHz on a DS3P normally doesn't even bother to spin the CPU fan up but now
it has but still quite slow. I have a scythe ninja cooler.

Yep. Mine's running at almost exactly the same speed with an ACF7Pro HSF and it's not many degrees above ambient when surfing with the fan almost stopped and SpeedStep enabled.

Cheers, Slipstreem.

I just added a little cooking oil and it's happily sizzling along at just under 90 degrees...

Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped
Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded)
4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12
250Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo
Enermax 600 Watt PSU
Ubuntu/Win XP
All in a Thermaltake Handbag...
Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker.

Try some MM Super Pi(e) here!
