Rereading this, I realise that you only ran the back-end setup!
after running the setup, use esc to exit. You should be asked if you want to run mythfilldatabase, say yes.
Then run mythTV frontend, which is where you can watch TV etc.

I have bitten the bullet and installed mythbuntu from scratch on a spare drive.
I still cannot get myth TV to work, so I am now giving it up before I lose the rest of my marbles.

Well, I am suffering with a really bad bout of flu ATM, in fact the worst I can ever remember, (first time off work for years), so it may be a bit longer in coming. Although I have managed to play about with MythTV in the last few days, and I now have a well configured system, my brain feels like slush, and nothing seems to be sticking.
The other issue is the sheer amount of variables- the article will be limited by the fact that I can only try it with 2 similar TV cards, and each card out there needs a different config.
