Hi All,
Im a subscriber to Micromart Magazine and a reguler ghost reader of the forum and thought it was time I contributed
I have decided to move my main OS from Windows XP Pro to Ubuntu.
I am very new to Linux and have only dabbled with it in the past on some Live CD's and some short lived
attempts at using Linux as a main OS in the past. I thought it was time to give it another go.
I have setup a blog : http://xp-2-linux.blogspot.com/
I set this up to share my experience with others and also as a kind of note pad for myself if I need to refer back to anything
in the future.
Primarily due to the coverage and help in Micromart I decided on Ubuntu and hope if I get stuck you can all help
Thanks
Austin

Welcome to the madhouse.
You will be given as much help as you require here. I have had so much assistance over the years from this friendly crowd, all of whom are willing to share information.

Hi Austin, welcome indeed.
You will find that it helps others to help you if you use your forum Control Panel to edit your posting Signature so that It displays a little summary of the rig/software that you are most likely to seek help on, allowing forum members to search out further detail. BigDaddy's signature is a far better example than mine, but you may choose to 'jazz it up a little' like other forum member's signatures and avatars.
Meanwhile file format conversion is one of the ills of modern information technology, but Linux software with Win32 counterparts may help, like OpenOffice, the GIMP and Thunderbird, but some Linux software is simply different or even better, with less overhead. I prefer Ubuntu 8.04.1's and LinuxMint5's Evince to Acrobat Reader for example, just double-click on a PDF to see it in action. So Have Fun !

Bruce R (03/08/2008) ..you may choose to 'jazz it up a little' like other forum member's signatures and avatars.
I don't condone that at all Bruce and it should be frowned upon.. ahem
Welcome to the forum Austin. Don't be afraid to ask anything.

Welcome.
Although I use (and support) Windows at work, alongside Linux and Mac, My home is a Linux zone only..4 PCs, wife's OpenSuse 10.2 (she won't let me upddate it), mine OpenSuse 11.0, HTPC Mythbuntu 8.04.1, and test rig, - a constantly changing mixture.
Good luck, and remember that Linux is not Windows.

Welcome to the Forums
Interesting that you opted for Evolution as your email application, I wonder what everyone else is using?
I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird at present, so there's one vote for that.
What are the rest of you using?
