Hey
I'm about to have O2 BB installed but my PC is in the next room from the phone point. It's probably about 8-10M away so I have a 15M phone extension lead. Will this reduce the BB speed? Would it be better to have the modem next to the phone point and link it with a network cable?
The o2 guy told me to just use wireless but I'm not too keen on wireless. Also, if I did use wireless will doing so also reduce the speed?

| As a general rule, the modem router should be as close to the BT point as possible, with as short a cable as practical, and the signal distributed via Cat5 network cable. I have approx. 15m of cable from the router to upstairs with no perceivable interference or loss of signal.

The other method is to leave your router near the 'phone point' and use a long Cat5 cable to run to your PC. I have not had any probs with this method - despite having a cable that is way too long needed for the task.

| Not really much loss as said above. It's far better to use internal (from master) to a secondary (slave) with 4 core hard wired cable. This is much the same as having your master socket in the room the rig is in. Normal telephone extensions tend to use fibre cables and not hard wired. Just remember 2, 3, 5, to 2, 3, 5 although it can be said 4 to 4 is often used, it's not needed. Mine isn't fixed to the wall, when I swap rooms for the winter I just move it into the warmer room.

I have a dodgy extension from the master socket near the front door all the way to the back bedroom and into my router. My BB works perfectly and I usually have one of the lower pings when gaming.
