but that deosnt make sense, the mobo and CPU are running at good temps and the GFX is at a lower idle temp....

I just did the other power connector and it crashed instantly again this time i got just a black screen then when I rebooted i got this message:

Visual C++

Runtime error!

system32\spoolsv.exe

was terminated in an unusual way

Help!

It sounds to me like it could be a problem at the driver level as those 8800GT temps are fine. So I'd suggest getting the latest drivers from nvidia but uninstall the drivers normally first and then use Drive Sweeper to remove the last of the driver files but do this in safe mode. Then restart and install the latest drivers. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

(sorry about the urls not working properly, they keep coming back to this page) (?)

Edit: Damn urls are giving me jip.

Hi again, this is now urgent!

I had probs with the drivers origionally- the ones on the CD didnt work so I had to use the latest ones from Nvida anyway.

But for you guys I uninstalled the drivers anyway and reinstalled them. and used the driver sweeper This happened:

So I rebooted and all I got after that little vista loading bar is a black screen. I tried safe mode but that wouldnt boot either. Im trying to boot from the Vista CD at the moment but so far all Ive got is a black screen. It booted once and it had repaired something then died. Oh and I uninstalled it as told normally then driver sweeper in safe mode.

I can acess the bios but as you can see it looks like that has died too:

WTF is wrong with this PC? Is it the GFX card the mobo? I'm now desperate. I havnt done anything stupid- its just stopped.

I cant boot vista even from the DVD.

This is my brothers laptop.

Edit: vista is back up and running... just the boot up time is now for some reason REALLY long any ideas?

bios is reflashed...what just happened? ok I jut re installed the latest nVidia driver and played crysis and the card got so hot i just burned myself on the top of it. So whilst the idle temps are low Id imagine that the load temps are very high. New drivers havnt helped and have made the PC relally slow.

I would return the mobo...It looks very unstable. I assume you have al relevant power connectors plugged in (24 pin and the extra 4 pin?) and checked everything is seated correctly.

Intel e7200 @ 4.0GHz (4.32GHz SuperPi(e)) Lapped
Asus P5E-VM (Vdroop pencil modded)
4Gb Patriot Pc6400 4-4-4-12
250Gb Samsung Spinpoint
Sapphire ATI 3870/Akasa Vortexx Neo
Enermax 600 Watt PSU
Ubuntu/Win XP
All in a Thermaltake Handbag...
Or flying @ 4.21GHz in the Stacker.

OK should I also return the GFX card as it is running very hot and get a different brand? or get a 9800gt for around the same price?

what happens with vista? if I return the mobo?

And what mobo would you suggest I buy this one was around £90 but for around £60 i could get the XFX 680iLT or should I not get a Nvidia board at all?

Im annoyed as its going to take hours to get the mobo out and replace it.....

edit:

im defragging the PC after just playing cod for around 10 mins but it crashed but the driver apparently recovered.... then after another 10 mins the pc just ransomly BSOD on me! nvlddmdk.sys died....

That looks like a G card problem. I would have thought the corrupt bios screen would have looked more disorderly though if it were the G card.

Can you not borrow/try a different graphics card?
