I have a spreadsheet containing phone numbers but the leading zero disappears. I have been playing around formatting the cells and had a google for the answer but I can't find it. Help!

Try entering the numbers as text.
Insert an apostrophe before the zero.

Wow! How easy was that. Thanks.

The reason I did not try was it lets you sample the effect and in the preview it just changed the cell content to a @ sign...

I've not used MS Office for some time. It works in Open Office so I assumed it might work in Xcell.

It is Open Office I'm using. Prefer it to M$ Office too.

Or you can right click the whole column, select "Format Cells" then the "Number" Tab and select "Text." That does the whole lot without the need for the old WYSIWYG ' before the number.
