Hi all, i've got avast install on my windows vista business latpop, running firefox 3 & thunderbird, vista is fully update with sp1 and all my spyware, antivirus & firewall is fully up 2 date aswell, i work from home but just use the laptop to send email / check website's when on the road. but for the past couple of days avast has been popping up with a box and blaring the alarm @ me saying about spfjxa.exe (everytime it sounds the alarm, the names keep changing) i.e djvwgf.exe spfjxa.exe , bhutfds.exe and the likes, I click on delete to delete them from the machine but 30 or so secs, avast pop's up the alarm to say i've got another infection :-( doing my nut in as i need the laptop fixed so i can send email's to clients and other things. is there a better antiruses scanner then avast what i could use and something better then zonealarm thx

Has Avast given you the option of doing a boot time scan to get rid of the infections?.

On the flip side, i used AVG for years but started giving me problems so i got shot of it for Avira.

they were the proper names of the viruses that avast were displaying the names i've been getting were for example wlxdqp.exe,wmsoft86176.exe\[PeX],fnmugh.exe,uigyiy.exe,hkdplc.exe and so on Win32:Virut IRCBot-DEG and the likes, but not had a warning alarm of avast for nearly 12 hours now and was using it yesterday on train as well, while i was going to a meeting, the only thing that I've added to the laptop was a plug in called no scripts and avast stopped reporting infectections from around installing that

Just to clarify, you say all your progs are up to date, but you haven't mentioned whether you've done a full scan or not. If not, boot into safe mode and carry out a full scan. It will take a while, but it's worth doing

yes agreed.

i would get rid of that scanner and get avira antivir for anti virus.  make sure to fully update it then run scan, preferably in safe mode.  then download superantispyware, malwarebytes and a-squared.  all three of these are spyware/malware scanners that wont interfere with each other but have with myself found infections each of the others have missed. again, update and scan.
