i was just wondering if this is possible, i have my computer hooked up to a router ( supplied by aol ) and i was wondering if i could use another router to split my connection between 2 computers, without affecting the original router
it would just save me either having 2 cables from the original router or having to plug it into which computer i'd like on the internet

If you mean having 2 routers plugged into the phone line sharing the ADSL connection, I'm afraid that won't work.
I assume it's because the PCs are in different parts of the house and you don't want a cable snaking about the place?
If so it's wireless or Homeplug I'm afraid.

I think he means using it so that one line goes from the router/modem to another router between the PC's which runs a cable to each.
Ant, download Dia and use the bundled cisco/networking symbols to knock up a diagram of the layout you mean.

i have one network cable coming into my room and would like to split it between 2 computers if i can, would i need a switch or something ?

| Don't add a second router to your network, it wil be a nightmare. As you correctly say you need a switch and you can buy them for under a tenner.
