| not sure about uninstalling it, i dont think there is a problem leaving it on. however, i have many different malware scanners, all free and avira anti-virus. when i run the different scanners some of the better ones seem to find things the others have missed. superantispyware seems to poss the best but asquared still found some things that the others hadn't. so did malwarebytes scanner. so dont feel that one malware scanner is okay and there isn't a problem having more than one. only the anti-virus should have only one scanner.

Yes you can get rid of Windows Defender. Spybot has a real-time part and a scan mode, so you don't need it.
I didn't actually realise this though, so have been unaware and been running 3 anti-Spyware items (Windows Defender, Spybot and Spyware Terminator)
I'm sure they are all as good as each other, so whichever you remove won't be a big issue.
