As some know I had ca Mobo and GFX failure on a PC that was less than a week old Not my fault I hasten) to add. My new Mobo is an ASUS P5Q PRO and I want to use an ATI 3870 x2 on it. It says that you need a 550W PSU but as the OCZ one is a decent PSU with dual 12V rails and an 83% efficiency I thought I could get away with this 500W PSU?

this is the Power breakdown and I know I have 2X +12V rails which as the card needs 2 connections (6 & 8 Pin) I assumed i could power it off the 2 connectors?
What I want to know is are the 2 connectors on different rails as if they are on the same rails then will I have to power one connector from molex?
My current spec is ASUS P5Q PRO
q6600
4GB OCZ reaper
2HDDs
2 DVD RW
front fan controller
and 2 cathodes
I know that there is an SLI/ X fire certified PSU that was CHEAPER than my one which is only 530W and provides the same current through the 12V rails as mine and is only ~70% efficient

What are your thoughts as everyone here seems really nice and knowledgeable!
cheers in advance!

It's a fairly basic set of connections on that supply anyway but it would probably do fine. The XStream lines are generally reliable enough.
I'd still get a 550w+ unit as suggested, probably something like the Corsair VX 550w which goes for ~£50.
It is basically two cards on one PCB and puts out a lot of heat. The HD48xx cards may be worth a look instead.

cheers for the reply-
I dont understand one thing the hiper sli certified PSU provides the same amps on the 2 12V rails as my PSU so I dont understand the difference.
Also should I power one connector from the 12V PCI rail and the other from molex or both from the PCI 12V rail? The molex is 5V rail right so I have up to 30A on that no?
I did look at the 48xx series but on the benchmarks and for the same price the 3870x2 was much better as the 4850 is the same as 8800gt but the 3870 x2 is better than gts/x so I went for that...
