I'm planning to get the domain space with "HostMonster.com" as they're unlimited bandwidth and space etc.. but I can't buy a .co.uk domain name through them. so now I have to try and find somewhere just to buy the name and then I assume I just transfer it across to hostmonster but there's a few issues I've come across:

I've bought names before from 1&1 as they were cheap but they've decided to bump their prices up for the second year (more than they orrigionally advertised). of course, I don't have to accept this price increase but if i don't, I lose the name. I'm not that bothered about this as I don't need the names anyway but I don't want to come across the same problem with a domain name I really want to keep. Another problem I've heard about is the ease of which you can transferr the names. I've heard people mention that it's a massive pain to transferr from some sites (ie 1&1 again). I'm not really sure what's involved in transfering the name, when I transfer it, does that mean the I pay the place it's transfered to for the name or do I keep paying the orrigional people i bought it from?

so what I'm looking for is a reasonably priced domain name seller who is not going to give me grief in the future and is easy to transfer. There's so many places out there though, it's become a bit of a headache and if they are going to muck me about, they don't always advertise it in an easy to find spot. Can anyone here recomend someone for me? also, is there any pitfalls I need to be aware of when buying space and a name?

just checked them out; seem pretty good on first glance and I may consider them over hostmonster for hosting but £10 per year for a .co.uk domain name is a bit steep.

cheers though!

123 look reasonably priced but it would take more than a week to trawl through all the turns and conditions hidden in their site and I don't trust any website that doesn't openly display some kind of contact information as this usually means that if something did go wrong, they'd be a bugger to get hold of.

I'm not really sure what transferring a domain name means; does it mean that i will be paying the domain name fee to the new people that I transfer the name to or is it just moving the name from one place to another but I still pay the original people who I bought the name off to keep it?

Krystal looks really good actually; they're not as good a deal as some of the american sites but they're local to me(southwest england) and I rang them up and actually talked to them -which is a megabonus! and they seem to be reasonable people rather than money grabbing sharks. And, they're domain names are selling at reasonable prices too.

think I'll go with them. Cheers for that!

I use 1 & 1 myself along with one of their hosting packages. Have four paid for names with them. Any of them are capable of price increases so I wouldn,t change just for this. Some companies will charge to move names or charge additional fees ro register a name. Also need to look at renewals, some companies don't remind you, whereas 1 & 1 will continue to renew automatically until you tell them to stop. I have been with some rubbish outfit
