Hi All,
I'd like to start a positive thread about Linux and compatibility issues with Hardware so I thought that I'd start a positive post about what has been found to work with Linux.
No it's not envisaged as an HCL in the formal sense, but if someone does a search of the forum for some hardware maybe overtime they'll find it in this thread.
I'll start with what's working for me at the moment;
Motherboard: MSI G33M
Graphics Card Asus 8500GT 512MB silent card
TV Card Asus P7131 Hybrid
Screen Yuraki 19" TFT
Printer Epson stylus Photo R220
Wifi USB Adaptor Safecom SWMULZ-5400
No problems with the above hardware and Linux

Excellent idea Malc, but if it's to be done properly it will need to be stickied and the first page categorised and kept up to date as new information comes in, because it will end up being a HCL. I'm thinking along the lines of Slippy's MPEG Encoding Race sticky in Systems Builders. Otherwise it will be a nightmare trying to find information and lead to duplication.I don't mind helping (but Simon will have to change my Mod status to include this Forum). I have a fairly huge list as I try Linux out on PCs at work as well as everything I see in my private busisness. Also the kernel level is important too. My 1GB stick with Pendrive Linux, being Mandriva 2007 based, fares badly on this years hardware compared to my 4Gb sticks with a full install of Spring 2008 or Ubuntu 8.04. As I said, excellent suggestion and I'll gladly help.

Hi Dave
I think if the rest of the forumites go along with it then I will sticky it and knock it into shape.
Your help and input would be most welcome (have a word with Simon).

As always it will live and die on contributions (see my Motherboard sticky) But knowing the people that hang around here, I don't see that will be a problem If Simon is busy I can always log in as "Super Mod", but I'll have to put my underpants on outside my trousers

Sorry to be a pain, I'm not even 10% fluent in Linux, but I would like to contribute a little. I have a few 'new' distros I have downloaded, and some older ones (and I don't mind messing with a live to recap).
I mainly test with a live distro and take it from there (installing if working fully). I can tell tale of what the few distros that I downloaded worked with the rig in sig (and a couple of changes) over the past year or so, and I can mess with my archaic rig, but are they relevant enough?
Kernel info I would have to revisit to find.
5 CC wins, and proud of my messy dive!

Hi Jon,
Anything you've found that works with Linux is relevant, for too long Forums have only seen the 'hardware y doesn't work'. This gives the impression that Linux is still choosy when it comes to Hardware, so the bigger the list of what works the better.
However, I'm not sure that 'Sig' contents come up in searches.

malc_wright (26/09/2008) However, I'm not sure that 'Sig' contents come up in searches.
Lol, really?
Anyway, you can put the KN8 SLI in the list of working devices. Lan found 100% of the time. Fedora Core 7, and Open SuSE 10.1 installed on the fake RAID 0 array, without any user intervention, something other distros at the time failed with - not found what modern distros make of it, but will check later.
EN7600GT: Most distros seem to think the max resolution is 1024 x 768 prior to installing proprietry drivers. Did not work with PCLinux OS and Mandriva (last years versions), everything was way too dark.
Palit 8800GT 512: Most distros seem to think the max resolution is 1024 x 768 prior to installing proprietry drivers. Will revisit the older versions of PCLinux OS and Mandrake (and find the proper distro version while I'm at it) later on today, if I find the Live disks.
D-Link DWL-G510 (Ver C2 F/W 5) PCI WiFi card: Bit of a weird one, works OK, but some distros struggle with WPA2 PSK. RT61 Chipset btw.
D-Link-G122 (Ver C1 F/W 3) USB WiFi dongle: Works. Supports monitor mode when configured properly. RT61 Chipset, though one distro found and configured it as RT71 ?!
Hope this is the kind of info you are after, if not I'll go away If so, I'll continue mesing around later and post my findings.
