Much better than the old version, but what happened to the hyperlinks in our signatures or in our previous posts? They seem to have turned into plain text. Also the icons don't seem to be for available for adding to new messages. Is this because I'm using Firefox and not IE6 (for anyone else out there who *can* see this stuff)?

The chatroom is roughly a month away from launch. We wanted to get the new forum up and running as soon as it was ready, rather than hold it back whilst we wait for the chatroom to be finished. So never fear it isn't that you can't find the button.

We will keep you updated on when the chatroom will be going live as and when we can.

Whats all this allowing guests to read the forum messages, why was this not mentioned beforehand, please stop it!

I have input into this forum for the benefit of a small, group 'the friends of MM'.

Many of the answers I have given requiring scripts, regs etc. should not be used by any old Tom, Dick and Harry. Whilst most of the previous MM forum users were aware of this, we are now open to be read by any idiot with a search engine.

There is a big difference between getting a write up in your local rag, and a getting one in a free worldwide distributed magazine.

Are the guests also allowed to use the search facilities and check users profiles etc.?

There was a thread in another part of the forum where it was requested to allow people to be able to view the forum as a guest.

It is here:

http://forum.micromart.co.uk/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=2&MessageID=7903

What do others think on this? A good or bad idea?

Also,
Guests can use the search facility and view users profiles. Remember you do not have to have your email address on public display in your profile, you can show as much or little information about yourself as you wish.

Guests viewing a forum before joining is becoming more common these days online, any and all opinions on it are of course welcome!

There's a wealth of information on here: why shouldn't it be available to everyone?

The only problem I can see is the extra load on the forum. It already slows down noticably during peak times: adding a hundred extra users (+search bots) might not be very helpful.....

I can live with guests, viewing the forums, to a point, but most forums I use or have used disable everything else unless you register. No viewing profiles, subscribing to threads, searching and posting etc. This one only seems to restrict postings.

Having the same problem as supreme being, no facility for adding smiley faces using Firefox :-(

Has MM become a flunkey to the Micro$oft empire and their efforts towards an (insecure) PC monopoly ;-)

At least the old schoool smileys work ;-O
