Following David's article on React OS I decided to give the live CD a try. Firstly with The Mop. The default was the "Debug" option. It started loading the drivers but then died. I then tried to load the Lve option. This wenta bit further and came up with the classic Window$ BSOD. I disconnected my e-sata HD and tried again. Nothing, just a black screen. Thinking, perhaps, that the Mop was too modern I tried the Dragon's ancient lappy. This worked first time and went straight to the desk top with no problems. Feeling pleased with myself I tried to try a few things. Surprise, surprise the USB mouse didn't work, neither did the trackpad. Oh well I needed a coaster on the hall table. React OS needs a lot of work before it can be used even with ancient kit.

The waters of the ReactOS development team are very stagnant. But, as a project, it has considerable promise. Incidentally, I booted the ReactOS machine this morning to try out another OS, and I got the BSOD - oh well!

It wasn't me, it was like that when I got here.

I had a look at an earlier version of ReactOS a while ago. It has a lot of potential (although the last time I tried it it kept crashing... not surprising since its still in development) but I think I prefer sticking with Linux and Wine for the time being!
