I have used CDs for my old BBC games, just record the tape onto the PC as WAV or MP3 and then burn to audio CD. The only difficult part was finding a DIN plug for the BBC tape input! And if you need to save from the BBC, just record the output from it onto the PC.
BTW, the BBCs tape output is 1200 baud, and I think the highest frequency used is 2400Hz.
