We're putting together one or two features at the moment, and we're interested in whether people think there's still a future for the Amiga after all the shennanigans of the last couple of years. We're getting mixed messages: some hardened Amiga fans seem on the verge of throwing in the towel, whilst others are convinced that there's still something round the corner.
Would appreciate any views on this...

I use my PC for my IT training, but as I said in the "Why Amiga??" forum thread, I have not given up on my nice and easy to use modify and configure Amiga a1200, and am waiting to see what happens next for the amiga and if it will be compatable with the older amiga software (for my now classic amiga games and other programs).

I think we need to see a technological marvel on the Amiga (as in the old days) to bring the Amiga back to the fore-front. I remember all the "Ahh but...." merchants saying things like "Ahhhh but there`s no way to upgrade the processor" or "you can`t use CD drives with it" only to be shot down in flames within a matter of days. I think the Amiga set a lot of standards and "firsts". It was truly plug`n`play, it was used to create some of the first CGI Movies, Babylon 5 to name one, I`d like to see the machine claw it`s way back.

No wonder there`s so much poop on my PC these days.

Amiga hardware, no chance.
Amiga OS, the only chance is if sony allow it to run on the PS3. Then it will probably be taken over have a name change etc etc.
I reckon i have more chance of winning the lottery than the amiga going somewhere. And i dont even play the lottery.

I agree with Kumgaro. its never goner happen unless some kind CEO at NEC or JVC wants to have a go. to be honest it went a bit pete tong with the 1200. Fancy making a machine that only allowed you to fit in 2.5in hard disks so that you had to pay a fortune compared to PC owners for storage. and then if that wasn't bad enough they sold a machine that was crippled by the fact that the cpu had no memory as its own so it had to use the video ram until the user bought (similarly overpriced) memory for it. whats the point of having a 68020 if it`s no faster than a 14mhz 68000 (witch is what the 600 should have really of had). and you the old giffer with the long beard and the unix 1975 manual dont you look so smug. if you had your way we would of had to buy hugely expensive Scuzzy drives.

I hope the Amiga does hit the market again, a couple of years ago, the Amiga 1 almost came back and nearly hit the market. Then it was put on hold, based on this, I suspect or at least hope they are still working on it to hit the market hard? If / when it does come back, I do hope you can still use your old Amiga stuff, programmes on floppys, I still have lot’s of. Dpaint / Wordworth / Scala / Ppaint but to mention but a few. Although the Amiga used low CPU & Ram, it’s still the best for video editing, video titling. The last time of using Amiga, I could connect to the internet, but with poor results when visiting web pages. One thing the Amiga seemed to lack in was internet support. No doubt due to the loss of the slowing of Amiga market the internet was based on PC programmes and every one wrote programmes for PC and the software dwindled. I do hope Amiga hits the market once again, and programme writers aim toward writing for the Amiga, as without that support the Amiga will lag behind. You can search the internet and find may many sites for the Amiga user, the problem is downloading the stuff, using a PC (different format) is transferring it to your Amiga and then problems opening it. It may be zipped on your PC, but it’s like giving a baby your car keys? The saying in the Amiga world is Long Live Amiga and it’s not completely dead as yet. You still find information for Amiga thanks to MM, we still read little snippets about the Amiga So is it DEAD yet? Once the owner of Amiga A600 A1200 and proud to use it:

| Nope, it's dead. A museum piece, left adrift by the pressures of the market and the vagaries of fashion.
