More linux howtos:
I opened this one at the most important page:
http://tinyurl.com/hk4qw
(it's at linux.com.)

Shields Up! free port scan. Ace. Steve Gibson of 'Spinrite' fame.

for the security conscious real geeks:
http://insecure.org/nmap/index.html

Finally,
packetstormsecurity.org, which I've mentioned elsewhere.
A real good-guys site.

Any chance of an update to the top list with some of those?
Couple more if they're not already covered:

Speedfan - temps/fan speed/voltages monitoring and control
http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Logonstudio - change the logon page for a user made one from sites like wincustomize.com
http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/

Found this while mooching round the net. "Drempels" animated desktop for Win98: http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/

Not sure if it works under XP or not.

Time flies like an arrow.....Fruit flies like a banana!!
'E' is for Ethernet. Used for catching Etherbunnies, Etherfish or Etherbutterflies.

No wonder there`s so much poop on my PC these days.

Omega Drivers, optimised for gaming, stability & ease of use.

Basic download instructions for those that have difficulty navigating the site.

Just under the headline banner "Drivers.net" click on ATI Radeon/Nvidia GF/3dfx as required.
On the next page and in the same position, choose your operating system (Win 2k/XP - Win 9x/ME) - scroll down to see compatability list.

Select Download from the list - if the site requires you to log in, come back to the list and select another one.

Remember to uninstall previous drivers - reboot.
Install Omega drivers - reboot

Re gparted:
If the live CD crashes before you get into the GUI proper, try the option to set the video card manually, then choose the option to initialise with extra steps, at the bottom of the same list. When you get to the display config part, a list of GFX chipsets will appear - choose the generic VESA driver and continue, and it should be fine. Found this out from a review of the S/W after a bit of searching. Review on techgage.com: http://techgage.com/article/gparted_livecd_31-1

Yankee Clipper (freeware YC3)

» Yankee-Clipper X (YCX) is the flagship application of InteleXual Software LLC. It is a super powerful clipboard extender that has a functionality our competitors haven't even dreamed of yet. It saves time by collecting everything that was copied to Windows® Clipboard and allows reuse later. YCX has powerful but intuitive settings and customization options. It comes in two views; simple and advanced.
YC3

» YC3 is the "little sister" of YCX- YC3 has a generous subset of features of YCX. (Some people even believe YC3 has all the features they'll ever need.) YC3 is genuine freeware with no nags, no hidden adware or spyware- we guarantee it. We have been approached many times by companies desiring to "bundle" some hidden application with YC3, but we have more respect for our users than that.

This is a great bit of freeware. I've had it installed a year or so, and it's been really handy.
