Hoping to get machine three onto folding at weekend or before but as per post which is quicker at processing data for folding. Being new to Linux I am a bit unsure as to how to setup Thomson speedtouch modem USB on Linux or firewall, AV etc. I have read something somewhen about having to compile at root on a command line but that may be from work using DEC VMS years ago. Any help appreciated but it may be simpler to use ME (though it will need a lot of updating if available as the install is a system disk flatten from a 1999 disk) as at least I understand it reasonably well, used it since 1999 and I am familiar with windows firewalls etc.

It's no harder/easier than under Windows, but Linux will run 24/7 stable, console client only tho.  As regards your broadband modem, have'nt got a clue if it's USB, if it's Ethernet then it's dead easy.

If thats the "Green Frog" modem it will work fine there are drivers for that on linux, also linux seems quicker than windows for some reason

right !, thanks Dr-Jon I thought Linux should be more efficient at pure number crunching but how do you add the green frog modem drivers to a preexisting Linux setup i.e. Knoppix

i think most new linux distros will have the drivers for the green frog preinstalled, should be just a case of makeing sure its pluged in to the usb when you install
