Think you answered all my question there Phil, thanks
Apart from Will we all start from no messages and no threads started again and will it be an end to notifications. Will the majority of the site still work flawlessly with non IE browsers etc..

Ok so by 'all user details', I could ascertain that on the new forum software you will still have posted n messages and started n new threads.

So what was mentioned about the browsers, just because you use MS IE, read the forum, there's one heck of a lot of us don't. Where did the MM web editor give us this info in the answer then.

Then there's the notifications, we've had a lot of problems on and off with them, and it has been suggested, some time ago, by the ED, that notifications would probably not happen. Then the forum software appeared to have been changed, so AFC, where's the answers, please try highlighting them again.

A simple, contact support if something doesn't work correctly isn't what I expected!

Sorry but if you have issues with this you should do what Phil said and contact techsupport@micromart.co.uk with your problems accessing the new forum, as i just want to see the forum back up and running OK again, with or without messages that have been posted.

Apologies if I missed out some details on my previous posting.

On the new forum you will be able to see how many posting a user has made.

Also, there should also be no browser compatability issues. Internet Explorer 5.5+ is preferred. However it should also work with Netscape 4.7+, Opera 7+, Mozilla 1.4+ and Mozilla Firefox.

You will have the option to receive a email when someone posts a message in a thread you also post in.

Again, if you DO have any problems accessing the new forum, please contact techsupport@micromart.co.uk whilst we do not envisage any problems we feel it best to have a means for readers to have assistance as fast as possible.

Regards,
Phil

CaptainCAD

We've been testing this software for weeks, and have a live beta version of the forum that we've been hammering to death. Whilst we have to allow still for the occasional thing that we're not expecting, the new software handles e-mail notifications in a different way. We've deliberately bought an off-the-shelf package this time, and have been customising it to our servers and needs.

In testing, the software has not deluged us with notifications, only those that we ask for.

I should be clear about this - this is a completely different software application that will be running the forum from later on today, and is a professional package that we have bought in (and thus has been thoroughly tested by the publishers of it, too), rather than us writing our own version. This was a direct suggestion from many forum members, and we agree with their recommendation.

We've worked hard on this over the past months - which is why the MM team have been less visible of late, and I genuinely feel that you will find it a big improvement.

It won't work quite like that - there'll be just one figure now for total messages.
