Firstly may I say a big "Thank You" to all those of you that have decided to join the MicroMart-UK folding team. The Team is a friendly place, just like these forums, If you are new to the forum as well then, "welcome" we aim to be as friendly and helpful as possible here, so please enjoy your stay and browse some of the other groups on this forum. I started the folding team after reading about folding the stanford web site here http://folding.stanford.edu/ and thought it was a very worth while cause, So i asked a few forum regulars if they would like to start a MicroMart team. They said it was a good idea, and so the team was started. It started out small as these things do but with in a few short weeks and a couple of small mentions in the illustrious MicroMart magazine it has grown to the team we have now, Which at the time of writing this is 79, Now some of the team are racers and some of the team are pacers, let me explain. The racers as I call then are the team members who like to like to try and be the top of the table, these people have the most work units and normally the fastest PC's The pacers are the main stay of the team they dont race, they pace, just plodding along producing work unit after work unit, these team members are very important as they make up the vast majority, and without them and there combined input the team would not be where it is today. So weather your a racer , a pacer or somewhere in between again welcome to the team.there are a few sticky's at he top of this forum to help you get your folding @ home clients set up and running. Tom Morton has made some nice signature banners, some with just team stats for pacers and some with positions within the team for racers, heres a link to the thread http://forum.micromart.co.uk/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=52&MessageID=75943&TopicPage=7. these of course are not compulsory or in fact needed but are a bit of fun. Many thanks for taking the time to read this, and for interest in the MicroMart-UK folding team. So please all new members leave a short post in this thread to say hi. PS.when you start folding you name will not appear in the team lists until you finish your first work unit,so please be patient, also the first work unit seems for some strange reason to take longer than all the units that follow. Happy Folding

Thankyou for the welcome, It's amazing how much of a boost the piece in the mag has been to the team. probably been said but perhaps an update in the mag would be a good idea?

Hello I'm not new to the forums but i'm pretty new to the folding team (been doing it about 3 weeks now). I'd just like to say that i see this as a really worthwhile cause. I used to run SETI at home but although its a nice idea of trying to find signals from little green men ultimately i came to realise that the chances of finding anything was pretty remote. The radio telescope has to pointing in the right direction at the right time. Using my spare CPU cycles to help produce data that is really going to make a difference to the understanding of some pretty crippling illnesses seems like an excellent use of my PC. As for racers and pacers, i'm not sure where i fit into that but i've shot up the table to around the half way point but i think gaining places will be harder to come by now. Maybe i'm a racey pacer!
We're all n00bs till we get the knowledge & skillz, its just that some are n00bier!

Hi to all the MicroMart folding team. I have finally put my backside into gear and joined the folding team (mostly thanks to the "Folding at Home" article by Tom Morton in Issue 886. I am currently running a 2.4Ghz P4 processor but today I have ordered an Athlon 64 x2 3800, motherboard and a Antec Sontana II silent case. Does anyone know how this processor fairs with Folding?

Welcome to the fold asktheprophet!
Currently Intel processors have an advantage with folding, due to Intel being a previous sponser of the project, with Pentium 4's and Pentium M's being the best suited.
However in the grand scheme of things it doesnt mateer, its not a sprint but a marathon, and every little helps!

Thanks Uni. I plan to use my old components to built a Windows Media Centre box. Can I run Folding the same way as with XP?
